The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga needed to extend permanent audio into its Aquatics and Recreation Center pool—a space previously served only by a portable PA.
The brief
Indoor pools combine high background noise, hard reflective finishes and long reverberation with persistent humidity. The system needed to carry speech and music clearly throughout the pool area while using enclosures suited to that environment.
The system
Howard Technology Solutions modelled the room in Danley Direct and selected four SBH20LF loudspeakers in Danley’s Extreme Weather construction. Their narrow vertical pattern helps keep energy on the audience and away from the ceiling and water, while the polyurethane-and-fibreglass cabinets address the moisture conditions.
The result
The university reported positive feedback from the permanent installation and began considering the same construction for other projects. The result is a useful reference for aquatic facilities where intelligibility and environmental durability have to be solved together.
