Speech clarity in a reflective parish church
St. Bernadette of Lourdes Parish in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, combined beautiful architecture with difficult listening conditions. Hard surfaces and HVAC noise made speech hard to follow. Precision Audio selected SH96 and SH95 loudspeakers with DNA10K4PRO amplification, using mains and downfills to direct sound towards the congregation. Danley reports that the arrangement improved intelligibility without adding acoustic treatment that would alter the interior.
Design considerations
For heritage and architecturally sensitive churches, compare coverage options before deciding how much treatment is needed. A loudspeaker plan should account for background noise as well as reverberation.
